Tattoo Sketches by Tati Ferrigno

Thanks Tati. Lots of cats just want to run away from me, except two.
One lost its eye early. My sister found him. Named him Pirate. He was more fond of her than me but I enjoyed the respect I got from him. He was gone too soon.
Another was black, with yellow eyes. A broken tail, but he didn’t seem to mind. I was scared he was going to run away like my sister’s new cat but he welcomed my pets without hesitation, as if he wanted it all along, and not just some nice thing people do for the sake of civility. I was shocked by his openness that I just pushed him away with my eyes, unable to cope with such open goodness, when I had to learn to the common, unspoken arts of “behaving” exactly the way society demands me to. But it didn’t take me long to see that as entrenched as my “education” was, I wanted more than anything to be openly good to something, whoever whatever is able and willing to receive it. In a few seconds, I tried again, to be more loving, letting go of the evil things in my head that call me to take on their side in sly, conniving ways. I hope I tried hard enough because I never saw that cat again, after my mother chased him away(I can never blame her, I knew why she did it, hurts nonetheless). I know enough that what I saw isn’t necessarily true of every cat, because I can never get close enough to them, but that cat helped me find something I thought I will work against me to pick up again. La vie.
